as promised:

it's gonna get some getting used to, mostly because it's a bit daunting, but ... i'm definitely excited*
;)

by the way, i got the Galaxy Grey Metallic one (not the shiny black one pictured on the site).

wow. i'm loving this Lady in the Water trailer. simple, subdued, and affecting.
too bad they had to go with voiceover guy for subsequent trailers, but this one rocks. this is how you do trailers. btw, i even noticed the gorgeous cinematography in the short trailer, and yes -- it's Christopher Doyle :) it's just this simple shot of a man walking around a swimming pool but he made it quietly elegant. for me to notice it's brilliance in such a humble, subtle (and short!) piece of work means there's a dazzling amount of talent somewhere.

well. it hasn't taken long, now, has it?
the Nelly Furtado/Chris Martin duet All Good Things (Come To An End) (that EMI DIDN'T WANT YOU TO HEAR !!!) is out, folks! :) i never thought it'd see the light of day. but thankfully someone got a copy out. as with the rest of the album, it features a lot of studio talk ...and our man Timbaland! :) it boggles the mind as to why EMI didn't want this out. i was sure it was because Chris was rapping or trying something new, but it's just a cool-ass ballad. it's a great, goosebumpy version.

Sleater-Kinney split !!!!!!!!!!
feels weird since i only started getting into them last summer.

oh. i got something else to let you in on. but i'm gonna be a tease and wait until thursday so it's all official and stuff.

i'm smitten.

aside from that, it's the first day i'd be working if i wasn't on vacation :) starting to feel like one now. it's raining, and probably will for the rest of the week, but it's alright. 1. i like rainy days, 2. i ended up getting sunburned saturday so i couldn't enjoy the sun even if i wanted to. today i put up my Ikea bookcase, only to find that i got the wrong cross-brace that holds it up together. too short. ordered the right one online this evening. i got an Amazon order coming in this week :) got a shipping email today. what else?... nothing much. enjoying the time off. ate some Pizza Hut. got two pizzas this afternoon while running my errands because my mom and her boyfriend were coming back today from their camping weekend. more for me, though, as i learned tonight that her boyfriend doesn't eat pizza (probably has to do with his pepper allergies). my bookcase is all set-up now (a makeshift brace is helping it not tip over while i'm waiting for the real thing to arrive - haven't put any cd's in) so i'm getting really excited about my room's look and feel. this is gonna be good :) that's it. i'm gonna turn in now.

uhhh....are Criterion working on bringing Kieslowski's La double vie de Véronique to DVD??? seriously developing...

sorry. back from the dead. temporarily:)
still settling in the new 'apartment'. hey, i'm officially on vacation now:) for a week. thinking of going to Ikea tomorrow or monday but i'm scared they won't have the bookcase to go with the one i already have (which looks strangely close to this one, which i would get if they don't have ones like mine, but i can't figure out if i can add shelves to it or not, and this one, but not as bulky. it's the same style, so maybe they do still have them. does anyone know if the Ikea sites lists every item they have in stores?). it'd suck to make the 80-minute drive, on my own, and not find what i went to get. i'd also obviously complement the trip with a film in Montreal (A Prairie Home Companion ... and An Inconvenient Truth if i felt really ballsy for a second film). but not finding the bookcase would really, seriously suck. it's supposed to be kinda sunny tomorrow so i could take some more sun in (supposed to be a rainy week). gawd. lol. i'm really indecisive on this one.

hopefully the night will bring some comefort and guidance :) have a good one.

12:20 PM

I FOUND IT!!!
wow. sometimes i do love the combination of internet+Google.
Ivar is the shelving unit i've been looking for and this is the particular configuration (add a few more shelves) i have !!!! :D dunno why it wasn't appearing under bookcases (it's only in work area) as i have three of them - one for cd's and two smaller ones for my audio/video system. alright! goddamn am i happy right now :) the site's only showing the side unit (and it is available at my Ikea) but they'll have the right shelves waiting for me. goddamn. YES:P

i just perked up in a major way:)
i'm probably gonna go today, actually. i can't wait to get it all set up. i've been wishing for a 2nd bookcase like this for years now. never thought i'd actually do it, though. well, today might be my lucky. i might also simply come back right after and skip Montreal and the film. that's just how excited i am right now :) (now, where's that coffee?;) i only slept about 5-6 hours last night.)

today (tuesday) was a good day for me. i'm this close to figuring out where the noise is coming from in my car. gonna get that checked (hopefully for the final time) thursday. then it'd be clear for a sale :) i got one week off starting saturday. that's always fun. gonna swing by Ikea to see if they have another bookcase for my cd's. it would kill. those two bookcases, one on each side of the head of my bed, filled with cd's...? awesome :) i should post pictures when that happens. but yeah, back to my fun day. i hadn't bought a cd since the start of April :) and today i did. and i also received a package from the DVDPacific 'sale' at the start of the month. always fun to receive surprises like these.
so, the loot:

11:07 AM

wow. Summer jumped on us, hasn't it? first official day of the summer is here.
and what a more perfect day to have our favorite summertime activity sprung upon us? our favorite time of the year is here:

BIG BROTHER OFFICIALLY STARTS (kinda) TONIGHT(!!) at 8 with a one-hour show where viewers will be asked to choose who goes into the house for us to obsess over for the next three months. i'm so excited!!! :) 9 months is a long time to forget just how all-consuming this show can be. get your drinking hats on, it's gonna be a long (and fun) summer :)

well. the Oilers did not win the Stanley Cup. end of story.

according to post-game interviews last night, the Carolina Hurricanes managed to create an outstanding family atmopshere amongst all the players and employees of the team, so i won't hate. they've got great management. and they are deserving of a win (all the clues were there; they were lucky as hell and everyone knows you create your own luck). but i seriously wanted an Edmonton Stanley Cup. at least they got the to Finals, and forced a 6th and 7th game, after not only coming in 8th place, but trailing 3-1 in the series. a great bunch of guys and a great story.

the King is dead, long live the King.

in other news, i had no idea Todd McFarlane was co-owner of the team! he even created a stylized new logo a few years back.

OMFG - Miss Rock Snob informs us of one amazing festival happening in Montreal (the beautiful parc Jean-Drapeau, to be exact) - the Osheaga Festival, September 2-3. first time i've heard about it. but go take a look at the lineup... please :)
how do they get these names with so little fanfare? amazing lineup!

that was my post for the day :)

i was actually quite busy putting my cd's back in my little Ikea bookcase and re-ordering them properly. ate well tonight. took a few minutes to hang out on the backporch while the sun was close to coming down. even though it was hot out today, i think the country surroundings (it's a cross between a suburb and nature) makes it cooler and a lot more relaxing. looking at the way my rooms are developing right now, i'm actually quite happy with this place :) i think i'm gonna enjoy it a lot. now, if only i had someone to share it with (especially to take advantage of the summer), it would be heaven :)

good night, everyone.

Monday, 10:39 AM

holy shit. Honey, you're gonna like this.
i just received a call from the ex-roommate. ah, the joys of living in these parts... guess who she was having coffee in front of this morning (he left as she was talking to me)?

Jack's father -- Donald /motherfucking/ Sutherland !!! :D
he was (presumably) with his wife. he's lived around here for the past 20 years or so, and another friend of mine had seen him at a McDonald's years ago, so he's obviously able to live a normal life around here. my friend was looking at him, trying to process the vision, when Donald saw him and simply smiled back :) it's fun to see him pop up from time to time. i really hope they bring him in as Jack's father sometime soon. the acting showdown would be tremendous.

hi. been busy with work and settling in this week. taking the weekend to finish unpacking all the leftover boxes. gonna check out tonight's Game 6 for the Oilers. Go Oilers Go! cool. i hadn't realized the game was in Edmonton. the atmosphere's gonna be spectacular. force a Game 7. thank you. also -- funny stuff. who was at Radiohead's 2nd NY show? Thom found out and tells all.

11:48 PM

the Oilers win 4-0 !!!!! and they just forced the Stanley Cup Finals into a Game 7. YES. too bad i won't be able to catch monday night but this game was awesome. they were on the puck first, won their battles, and got some awesome goals (on Cam Ward, no less). and the last 4 minutes were breathtaking.

i'm unpacking my cd's now...lol. but there's good news - i have more space here so i'll finally be able to get that second Ikea bookcase :) (shit. which i now can't find online. hopefully they still got it in stock. i think i saw it earlier this year. it's just bare sides and you buy as many shelves as you like. it can be used in the garage, kitchen, or living room. i'm sure they still have it:)

June 14, 2006

okay. this news is worth bumping my Radiohead show comments.
here are Criterion's September releases (and re-releases that i don't mind, now that we have the spectacular specs), leaked, once again, by daddy Image (btw, i'm getting used to the new french pocketbook look).

(awesome) Re-issues
Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa) (3-Disc Edition!!)
Amarcord (Federico Fellini) (2-Disc Edition!!)
Brazil (Terry Gilliam) (3-Disc Edition)
will this be the same version as the big ole Criterion edition of lore? i'm gonna kill someone if i have to shell out big bucks for a new one. well, they are releasing a single-disc version so maybe only the preferred version of the film is getting a new transfer.

New
The Spirit Of The Beehive (Victor Erice)
Jigoku (Nobu Nakagawa)

you wanna laugh for the next 90 minutes? here are the Umbilical Brothers. surprisingly creative -and hilarious!- stand up routine.

Bonnaroo. streaming live, uninterrupted -free!- content this weekend!
might check this out. (Radiohead are included :)

RADIOHEAD
Montreal Night 2 / June 11 2006

my mind is not able to go into detail about the show yet. too soon. who knows? but here are some thoughts on their performance.

first off, the Black Keys rocked the house. glad to see them getting some more exposure. now, the show. as a whole, i was sadly out of it for some reason. the first couple of songs were great, but then the first new song popped up, Open Pick. i liked what i heard but that was a definite momentum killer for me. then the rest of the set was pretty much by-the-numbers performances of the album versions. it was good, don't get me wrong, but definitely not as eye-opening an experience as i was expecting. even though Thom looked much happier and danced around a lot this time around, the outdoor shows had a more special feel to them. but then, oh yeah, a few songs before the end of the first set, they played Myxomatosis (followed by the outstanding There There) and things turned on their heads from that point until the very end of the second encore for me! that was an outstanding ten-song run to end the freaking show. oh yeah. i'd still been happy about being at the show, and the seats were great (and the venue... omg, you just had to take a look back at the three balconies filled with people and it was enough to give you shivers), but that third act was outstanding. exactly what i'd hoped for. so, i still can't figure out what makes Radiohead such a great live experience, but every single time i've seen them (save for the rafters Bell Centre one) they blew my mind and i was transported somewhere else for one night. a great live band. yeah, so best:)

btw, people are bemoaning the 90-seconds Spooks from last night. WTF??!! that was the song that blew my fucking brains out! i loved it. of course it's only an instrumental now (and it can stay that way, imo) and is obviously only in demo stages but it was the tightest, most rocking song ever! i wasn't sure of the guitar thing of the other new songs but this one was a definite winner. amazing. keep it. expand it but don't change a fucking thing on it. thank you.

holy damn, folks -- Mosley is BACK, folks! for the past couple of years Timmy has been playing with retirement. he was dissatisied with the music business and everytime i saw him you could see a lot of the excitement was gone. but check out the video for Promiscuous, the Nelly Furtado single heavily featuring Timbaland. not only is this another catchy Timbo single, but he looks like he's having a blast in the video! and when did he start buffing up?? fuck. lol. a new Timmy. it's awesome to see him having so much fun. here's hoping it inspires him and Missy to do an entire album together again. in the meantime, i was gonna pick up Nelly's album but now i can't wait to get it :)

and the Mosley Music Group (typo in the video)? holy shit. i guess we're are in for a few more years of Timmy after all :)

June 10, 2006

wow. what a major fucking headache! lol. guess what? everything's done! i moved out of the apartment i've lived in for the past four years this morning. quite an accomplishment. and it was pouring rain most of the day :) it was fun. but the past couple of days (days i took off work to finish packing and getting stuff ready for today) have been hectic!!! wow. i didn't go to bed until 2:30 this morning and got up at 7 to pack some more. i was packing as my first helpers got to the apartment :)

but things are done. now it's the settling phase. i got tonight to do that. i'm tired. wanna watch a film later on. chill out. tomorrow: Montreal & Radiohead :P oh yeah. if i haven't mentioned it already (although i'm sure i have), i also took monday off work 'cause i knew i wouldn't be able to do anything, unpacking-wise, on sunday and i didn't feel rushed. that's the life :) kind of a new beginning.

1:04 AM, Sunday

(only twelve hours before we officially leave for Montreal to see Radiohead :) now that the move is over -i'll finish unpacking monday- i'm definitely getting excited for the show :)

come the fuck on. give Melissa her place back. it might just be tabloid fodder but i can't see them thinking of anybody else (if D'Arcy ain't coming back from the dead). end of story.

June 09, 2006

well, i'm on my last day packing boxes. i'm gonna do a quick run and bring some of them to my mom's house. should do a last one later this afternoon.

i'm not all that sad to leave this place. the place and the location are nice but i'm not sad to leave the situation here. roommate was kind but a bit in his own world most of the time (he's still hasn't given me the message my friend won't come help us out tomorrow morning) and hi gf is mad at me for asking her to stop bringing boxes and doing renovations around the apartment even though she'll have next week off to do all that before she moves in. it's alright, though. i feel good about this :) the weekend is looking mighty fine :) have a great day.

9:11 PM

ha. to top things off on this crazy day (multiple runs to my mother's house to bring as many boxes as humanly possible, driving all the way to the other side of the city to get a lift for the fridge/stove/washer/dryer tomorrow, and going to the ex-roommate's to tell her her big birthday surprise that we're all going to the Radiohead show in Montreal sunday:) ...for the first time in my life: i ran out of gas. LOL. and i was going to get some. my car stopped with 30 seconds to go:) in the drizzling rain. i found it funny :) have a good night. i'm turning the computer off and unplugging it. 'night :) (see you on the other side.)

Comedy Central are bringing out Strangers with Candy - The Complete Series at the end of the month, just a day before the movie comes out. if you haven't seen this series - get cracking!

June 08, 2006

hello all.
i've been rather busy this week. i am moving out of my apartment this saturday. i took today and tomorrow off work to finish up my boxes and bring as much stuff to my mom's house as i can before saturday's big move. aside from that i had to fight the roommate's girlfriend off during the last week because she was starting to bring her boxes in already. i'm moving saturday, she's moving in next saturday. a week during which she'll be on fucking vacation and the apartment will be almost empty! i was pissed. i left her a note about it two weeks ago. she said she'd brought two boxes in because she had no place to store them. good. then, just this weekend, she brought a few more boxes in. wtf?? then the day about fifteen boxes! i left her a note letting her i would appreciate it if she could stop with the boxes and the renovations (she started painting the window frames) for my last three days as i would like to be able to pack up my things and relax a bit before moving out -- of the apartment i've had for 4-fucking-years! come the fuck on. haven't heard a word since :) it's sad that things had to deteriorate during the last week. things had gone fine with her for the past year. oh well. i was worried she took a lot of space, and coworkers shared this belief as well, when her bf moved in here a year ago. but we got a long fine. but with 2 weeks to go, i guess something broke in her brain and made her hyper about the move or something.

hey, whatdayaknow--the roommate forgot to mention a good friend of mine had left him a message to let me know he wouldn't be able to help me move saturday. yay. ain't expecting the roommate to start giving me messages now seeing as he never did all year round (oh yeah, as soon as i caught on how forgetful he could be i tastefully started forgetting he had messages also).

here i am. two days left before the big move. doing boxes.

my horoscope voodoo is still going on...:
Friendster Horoscope for June 8, 2006
Libra

Efforts you put into things now will pay off tenfold. Roll up your sleeves and go!

Follow the logical path of reasoning -- A plus B will always equal C, so stop looking around for new answers. Don't act surprised when disappointing people disappoint you -- or when wonderful people fill you with a sense of wonder! Luckily, you'll deal with a lot more of the latter. Another law you should obey is the more effort you put in, the more rewards you reap -- so you may have to trim down your lunch hour if you want to get stuff done!

oh, and sunday i'm seeing Radiohead in Montreal ;)

the first photo of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. very cute. there's no contest to it, really. this kid's gonna be awesome.

oh, and last night at work i learned a friend's brother was summoned to the Bell Centre in this morning for a day of physical exams and interviews with the Montreal Canadiens :) he's in the Juniors and they called him up for the upcoming draft. i'll see tonight if he got news if they're interested or not. i thought that was cool.

as if they needed another reason - EMI are still assholes.
i was actually really looking forward to this duet. not only because it's so left field ... but Timbaland produced the damn thing! (apparently. we'll have to check the duet-less version when Nell's album comes out in two weeks.)

June 05, 2006

wow.
okay. first things first - i hope you're having a good monday morning and woke up refreshed from your weekend. i had a baby shower on saturday (are guys usually barred from these events? well, ours was a party/baby shower because they wanted everyone there), which was lots of fun - if only a bit weird thanks to an overly-aggressive/joyful coworker who thought putting all his weight on my fucking solar plexus through his fucking elbow was a playful activity as i took our friend's camera away from him (at her request) and tried to hold on to it. as i felt a searing pain on my chest, i told him to watch what he was doing. he shot back with a smile, 'i know what i'm doing.' WTF??? he's about 28 years-old and usually a cool intellectual who does jujitsu. it killed the fun for me, i'll tell you that (on top of his incessant flirting with my ride-to-work friend - who later told me she would've gladly gone home with him had he had the balls to finish what he'd started and asked her to. lol. fuck. i told the ex this yesterday and she was shock and kinda disgusted by her choice :) she was a whole lotta drunk, though:) thank god we were leaving for McDonald's ten minutes later to end the evening. but, i drank quite a few beers and more than a couple of shots and, although it had been quite a while since i'd last drank, i did not get sick :)

yesterday i filled up my car with more boxes and brought them to my mom's house. also got an ethernet cable long enough to connect my mom to our new high speed connection. but--the fucking did not work. it says a cable's disconnected, which they are not. this morning she called up a service tech. of course, over the phone like that, he simply asked her to check a few settings and finished by saying the cable must not be working. alright. she's gonna get a new one tomorrow. i doubt that's the problem (it's a brand new Belkin cable) but i'm also hoping that's it. i can't wait to have the network all set up and working for her. (i'm also moving in saturday:)

very cool use of technology, Nike-Apple.

forget the overly-melodramatic moments of the trailer - Mira Nair's The Namesake definitely piqued my interest.

of course he would have it! (bangs heads.) Kevin put up the Cannes 8-minute standing ovation they got after Clerks II screened last month. awesome. (new score added so as not to spoil the end credits song.)
