okay, so Metallica's new album, St. Anger, was scheduled to come out June 10th, right alongside Radiohead's Hail to the Thief. but at the last minute they change their minds and now it's coming out this friday, June 5th.
the official reason? seems the album has started to leak so they're releasing the album 5 days ahead of schedule to stop that.
what?
sorry but releasing an album doesn't stop people from downloading an album, dudes.
people who were gonna buy it will; and people who would've just downloaded the songs will also still do that.
maybe they can dupe some people into buying the album before previewing it. that's the only reason i can find that makes some sense (although truly shaddy sense, at that).
the only other reason would be so they wouldn't have to go against radiohead's hail to the thief next tuesday (the media blitz is for radiohead. every day i hear about hail to the thief, but i can go 3 or 4 days without hearing about st. anger). this way, they get their exclusive friday all to themselves. that's the only other reason i can see.
fucked if they do, fucked if they don't.
releasing an album 5 days early because it's being leaked on the internet is not a good reason and is a lame excuse.
felt like sharing.
thanks.
