Montreal Night 2 / June 11 2006
my mind is not able to go into detail about the show yet. too soon. who knows? but here are some thoughts on their performance.
first off, the Black Keys rocked the house. glad to see them getting some more exposure. now, the show. as a whole, i was sadly out of it for some reason. the first couple of songs were great, but then the first new song popped up, Open Pick. i liked what i heard but that was a definite momentum killer for me. then the rest of the set was pretty much by-the-numbers performances of the album versions. it was good, don't get me wrong, but definitely not as eye-opening an experience as i was expecting. even though Thom looked much happier and danced around a lot this time around, the outdoor shows had a more special feel to them. but then, oh yeah, a few songs before the end of the first set, they played Myxomatosis (followed by the outstanding There There) and things turned on their heads from that point until the very end of the second encore for me! that was an outstanding ten-song run to end the freaking show. oh yeah. i'd still been happy about being at the show, and the seats were great (and the venue... omg, you just had to take a look back at the three balconies filled with people and it was enough to give you shivers), but that third act was outstanding. exactly what i'd hoped for. so, i still can't figure out what makes Radiohead such a great live experience, but every single time i've seen them (save for the rafters Bell Centre one) they blew my mind and i was transported somewhere else for one night. a great live band. yeah, so best:)
btw, people are bemoaning the 90-seconds Spooks from last night. WTF??!! that was the song that blew my fucking brains out! i loved it. of course it's only an instrumental now (and it can stay that way, imo) and is obviously only in demo stages but it was the tightest, most rocking song ever! i wasn't sure of the guitar thing of the other new songs but this one was a definite winner. amazing. keep it. expand it but don't change a fucking thing on it. thank you.

Canadian celebs at the shows - so far for Montreal:
Night 1 - Arcade Fire's Win and Régine, and Les Cowboys Fringants.
Night 2 - Patrick Masbourian, Didier Lucien, at least two members of Les Trois Accords (spotted by the ex-roommate right behind our fricking seats!!:) and Pierre Lapointe, whom we saw outside the venue after the show but someone spotted him at the show (dunno which night but that was probably it).
